The Buckeyes BALL Women's Doubles Team Triumph Over Arlington Park
On Monday, Oct. 27, the Rossmoor Buckeyes women's doubles team played the Arlington Park team from El Cerrito and were victorious winning 7-5.
In first position, Becky Reiss and Gery Yearout won easily 6-0/6-3. In second position, Anna George and Micki Remedios also won easily 6-2/6-1. In third position, Joyce Neibur and Colleen Scully split sets and had to retire. The fourth position team was Marnie Powell and Angie Dometrovich who lost in two sets.
The Buckeyes were very happy to have the support of their team members and other spectators. "It really helped" said Barbara Schwartz, the team captain. She also commented that the new social area seems to have increased spectator attendance at the matches and hopes even more people will come out and cheer for the team. Lee Griffith, the Buckeyes coach, expressed her pleasure with the players performance and is looking forward to more victories
The Buckeyes next match is a rematch at home with Orindawoods on November 10.
The Men's Senior Doubles League Defeated by ClubSport Pleasanton
On Wednesday, Oct. 29, the RTC men's senior doubles league played ClubSport Pleasanton who came with their best players and their "A" game. The Rossmoor team fought hard and played well but lost all four matches.
The number one team of Bob Walgren and Larry Barclay lost 2-6/3-6. The number two team of Randy Kuhl and Ron Wyman lost a hard fought battle 4-6/5-7. Allen Kent and Larry Einspahr lost 0-6/0-6. Murray Veroff and Ralf Parton were the only team to win a set but wound up losing their match 6-3/2-6/1-6.
The team wants to gives special thanks to Lenny Cook who volunteered to grill hamburgers and hotdogs for the event and the team captain, Ken Anderson, who organized the event, selected the teams, and made sure there was plenty of food and drinks for everyone.
