New Members Tournament

The New Members Tournament was played on April 23 at the Buckeye Courts. 24 new members, 12 men and 12 women, showed up for a fun day of tennis and a potluck get together.  The tournament followed a modified Wild Card format consisting of 7 mixed doubles.
The men's first place winner was Bob Benz with 23 games. Second place went to Bernie Wolf with 20 games, and third place to Roger Artley with 18 games.
For the women there were a number of ties Dee Dunne and Cinnamon Renvall tied for first place with 20 games each. Poppy Tanner, Shari Wiseman, and Jean DeVinney tied for second place with 19 games each.  Third place went to Katha Hartley with 15 games.
The tournament coordinators, Gloria McBeth and Candace Wilkes ran a well orchestrated event keeping all the players in the right groups and on right courts and finishing right on time for the potluck lunch.
The potluck lunch social held after the tournament was a great success much to the credit of the volunteers who set up the social areas and those who provided the meals.  The potluck volunteers were Karen Baker, Sally Nordwall, Barbara Phillips, Eppie Ying, Trudie Anderson, Joyce Niebur, Margaret Logwood, Jan Perez, Micki Remedios, Cheryl Patterson, Anna George, Shin Kim, Dee Luce, Gery Yearout, Mary Kay McClure, and Barbara Schwartz who help coordinate the potluck.
After the potluck, Wolf put together four groups of casual doubles where the new and old members played together. .
The club thanks McBeth and Wilkes for their hard work and all the volunteers who helped make the 2016 New Members Tournament an enjoyable and successful New Members Tournament
