The weather was perfect and so was the tennis when the Rossmoor Tennis Club hosted Trilogy of Rio Vista last Saturday, May 14th. After a morning of heavily contested tennis, Rossmoor emerged victorious 18 sets to 6. At line 1 men's Frank Haswell and Rob Ingalls used a wide variety of shots to cruise past their opponents, 6-2, 6-2. At line 2 Randy Kuhl dominated the net and Eugenio Ovalle hit wide cross court shots to easily crush the competition, 6-3, 6-2. Line 3 saw Jerry Robinson's consistency and Barry Brian's spin completely befuddle their opponents 6-2, 6-1. At line 4 Ken Haley and John Lee played a tough team and managed to win a tough first set 7-5 before losing the second 2-6.

Rena Benz and Sherry Endicott, playing at line 1 women's, overpowered their opponents with sharp angle shots 6-2, 6-2. Line 2's Barbara Blum and Eppie Ying encountered a very strong team and lost a tough match, 2-6, 4-6. Lil Kuhl and Jean DeVinney played an interesting line 3 battle. After losing a heartbreaking first set tiebreaker 6-7, they came back and won the second set, 6-0. Amy Bollinger and Irene Wong easily out dueled their line 4 opposition with a good, consistent ground game, 6-2, 6-3.

Mixed doubles saw a great deal of interesting and fun matches. at line 1 Mary Jane Kiefer and Mike Kiefer came back from losing the first set to a very good team 3-6 with an exciting second set 6-4 victory. Line 2's Katha Hartley and Bob McGowan also encountered a very competitive team and won the second set 6-3 after a tough 6-4 first set loss. John Lee, filling in for an injured Chuck Decker, teamed up with Joyce Decker to out play their rivals 6-1, 6-1 at line 3. At line 4, Stan Orlik and Dee Dunne encountered a very strong team en route to a 0-6, 4-6 loss.

Tournament chairman Randy Kuhl wants to thank Rob Ingalls for barbecuing an excellent lunch and Sally Nordwall for keeping score, creating name tags and keeping everyone on the right court. Irene Wong, Eppie Ying, Ken Haley, Barbara Blum, Barbara Phillips, John Lee and Lil Kuhl for both setting and cleaning up in the kitchen area.
