Women's Doubles
August 13, 2016

The Rossmoor Tennis Club staged its annual Women's Doubles Tournament on Saturday, August 13 at the beautiful Buckeye Courts.  Twenty-four Rossmoor women competed in four rounds of eight games each, playing with a new partner each round.

Play started promptly at 9 AM and ended at 11:30 AM to everyone's relief because the temperatures on the courts became intense during the last hour.

The women players displayed a wide array of great tennis skills: wicked serves, serves that skidded off lines, topspin lobs placed so as to be unreturnable, fast cross-court and down-the-line winners, slices and drop shots, angled forehand and backhand volleys, jamming hits to the opponents feet, and plain old determination to return that ball no matter what.  It all made for great competition and fun. Food and drink and shade was enjoyed by all in the new social area during breaks and after the last round.

Becky Reiss won first place with 25 points, Jean DeVinney and Pauline Hanley tied for second with 21 points, and Nelly Sawczuk came in third with 20 points.

Trudie Anderson and Jan Perez organized the event with the very much appreciated help of Barbara Anast, Carol Pillsbury, Eppie Ying, Sally Nordwall and Randy Kuhl who worked out a great play schedule.
