Rossmoor's Buckeye Women's Team won
The Rossmoor Tennis Club Buckeyes women were victorious, winning 9-3, against Orindawoods on Monday, Nov. 10. The match was played at the Buckeye tennis courts.
Here's how it happened: Mary Jane Kiefer and Becky Reiss won 6-0, 6-1. Micki Remedios and Anna George split sets 4-6, 7-5, and won the tiebreaker 10-7. Cheryl Patterson and Co-Captain Barbara Blum won 6-2, 6-4. Loc Barnes and Pat Hyde spilt the first two sets 6-4, 0-6 but lost the tiebreaker 7-10.
The team wants to thank Barbara May, the team's refreshment lady, who also made sure the courts were cleaned up and ready for the match. A team thank you also goes to Christie Maxwell who came to the match early to sweep leaves off the courts.
The Team also thanks everyone who came to cheer them on. "It worked!" said co-captain Blum who also thanked all the team players for a winning match.
Rossmoor's Interclub Over 60 Men's Team lost
The Rossmoor Interclub Over 60 League hosted the Blackhawk Tennis Club for a men's doubles match on Wednesday, Nov. 12. The Blackhawk Tennis Club, a new participant in the Over 60 League, brought a strong team for the match defeating Rossmoor 3-2.
Randy Kuhl and Mike Ying played an excellent match splitting the first two sets 6-2, 4-6 and winning the third set tiebreaker 10-5. Team captain Bob Walgren and Ron Wyman lost the first set 2-6 and had to retire in the second set due to an injury. Rolf Kvalvik and Murray Veroff lost in two sets 3-6, 2-6. John Lee and Bruce Marts won a well fought match splitting the first two sets 2-6, 6-4 before winning the third set tiebreaker 10-8.
The Blackhawk team, who have a beautiful tennis club, had high praise for the Rossmoor Buckeye facility while enjoying food and refreshments at the new social area.
Rossmoor Tennis Club Holiday Party
The Rossmoor Tennis Club will celebrate the Holidays with their annual party on Saturday December 20. The party will begin at 5:30 in the Fireside Room. Dinner will be catered by Rossmoor's very own Creekside Grill with entertainment provided by the popular DJ, Rick Batiste. The cost is $30 per person. Send reservations and checks to Joyce Niebur.
