Soap-flavored burgers don't taste  so good ...

I was at Buckeye yesterday checking the newly relocated shed, and found 2 cans of oven cleaner, as well as 2 boxes of SOS and Brillo pads. I went over to look at the grill, and noticed the grates are clean, but there's a whole lot of SOS residue still on the grates. This means that the next group that uses the grill will have SOS-flavored burgers. I removed all these things from the social area.

Please do not use SOS on the grates for the above reason. In addition, according to the instructions on the can, oven cleaners are not to be used on grill grates or surfaces that come in contact with food.

A method for cleaning the grates that was shown to the Grillmeisters, and was used at most of the Saturday BBQs this past summer, is to bring a medium sized bowl and put several inches of water in it.  Then, when you're done cooking, dip the grill brush in the water and use the dripping wet brush to scrape the hot grates with the fire still going.  This will in effect steam clean the grates without using soap.

Thanks to everyone for paying attention to these cleaning details.  And the group that uses the grill after you thanks you too!
