Suggested budget is $25-30 to include muffins, fruit plate, orange juice, half-and-half for coffee.

Teams

  • Teams: 6 or 8 teams, each with four [4] players.
  • Players are seeded into equal sized, ranked groups 1, 2, 3 and 4.
  • One player at each level is assigned to each team by randomly picking a player out of each group.
  • Organizer make may minor changes if some pairings seem egregiously unfair. (e.g. Best A is paired with best B)
  • The players are entered in the spreadsheet by team and seeding group. (e.g Team B player 2)

Format

Teams split into two groups, then play off in a round robin format.

There is a spreadsheet to produce these rotations and court assignments.

There are three round robin rounds

  • Each team in the group plays against each of the other teams in the group
  • Each round has an A-B match and a C-D match
    • With six teams, each team also plays a cross-over match against one of the teams on the opposite group
  • Teams win a point for each game they win.
  • Teams are then ranked 1, 2, 3, 4 in each group.
  • Tie breakers
    • Most games won within group play
    • Most games won including cross-over play
    • Head-to-head match results [see mini tie-break below]
    • Coin toss

There is then a knock-out competition as follows:

  • Six [6] teams ... one round
    • First-Second place: Group A winner plays Group B winner
    • Third-Fourth place: Group A second plays Group B second
    • Fifth-Sixth place: Group A third plays Group B third
  • Eight [8] teams ... two rounds, semi-final and final
    • Group

Playing Rules

Games are regular scoring.

If the sun rule is in effect, all games are served from the same end, with one team serving one game, then changing ends and the other team serving two games in a row before the next changeover. The player about to rotate out should serve first after a changeover.

Round robin: play four [4] games, where each players serves. If the teams are tied across the two courts, the last pair of the two teams to finish plays a mini tie break. [This serves as a head-to-head tie breaker, not as an extra game]

Knockout play: Each player serves twice [eight games], first to 5 by 2. Mini tie break at 4-4.

Mini tie break: Each player serves one serve in normal rotation. First team to 3 points leading by 2 points wins.
